Fridge magnet pictures 1884 advertisement for Davenport Oscillator and Davis Iron Power farm implements manufactured by the John S. Davis company of Davenport, Iowa.  Founded as the Davis, Watson Co., and located in the Washington Machine Works area near the railroad bridge on Third St., the firm became one of the larger farm implement manufacturers in Davenport.  In the 1860s it employed 20 workers at $2 per day.  In 1864 Davis bought out Watson and renamed the company.

This 1884 advertisement promoted threshing machinery manufactured by John S. Davis of Davenport Iowa, illustrating the Davis Iron Power and Davenport Oscillator separator.  The company employed 50 workers.

A New Jersey native, John S. Davis (b. 1816) came to Davenport in 1856 after trying his hand at stove making and leather working in Cincinnati and Indianapolis.
