Magnet pictures a 1954 advertisement for gas appliances, sponsored by the American Gas Association. It pictures a pink and black kitchen with a Hardwick Automatic CP" gas range and a Servel refrigerator that was also operated on gas (amazing, didn't know refrigerators were once powered by gas). "Look to GAS for the smartest kitchen you can own." "Only gas gives such matchless performance"
The Servel fridge with its copper front freezer was touted for running silently and offered a 10 year warranty.
Founded in the 1870s in Cleveland, TN, the Hardwick Stove Company was acquired by Maytag in 1981 and the brand no longer exists. The model shown in the advertisement includes a double oven.
Once employing 7,000 in its Evansville, Indiana plant, Servel was a casualty of the switch to all electric kitchens.
