Magnet pictures 1880s advertisement for Dimock Gould & Company's Eureka paper pail. Patented in 1882, the Eureka was made with seamless construction, Manila paper and iron hoops. It was warranted not to leak or water soak but was not recommended for dairy use.
Founded in 1852, Dimock Gould & Co. was and still is located in Moline, Illinois. It began as a partnership of John Deere, founder of the John Deere farm equipment manufacturing company, John Maxwell Gould and D. C. Dimock. The company initially produced furniture and wooden ware but after a fire in 1856 abandoned the furniture line and concentrated on lumber and wooden ware. In recent times the company has expanded into wholesale kitchen and bath cabinets with its Greenvalley product line. The firm is operated by the fifth generation of the Gould family.
