Magnet pictures a 1950s advertisement for Tide dish washing detergent. Prior to seeing this ad, I was only familiar with Tide detergent for laundering clothing. (Too familiar -- have used the product for fifty years.) Tide is a Proctor & Gamble invention from 1946 that was so superior to prior product entries that it took out older brands based on soap flakes, such as Fairbank's Gold Dust. Tide dish washing detergent appears to have had a brief lifespan. At its website Tide offers a collection of laundry tips, including a how-to on removing pills from sweaters.
