Magnet pictures a modified* version of an advertisement for Tru-Vue 3-D viewers and filmstrips. The ad appeared in pre-Christmas comic books and focuses on children's interests. It promotes Sleeping Beauty, Donald Duck, Lone Ranger and Mighty Mouse filmstrips, as well as gift sets.
The Tru-Vue company was founded in Rock Island, Illinois in 1931 to manufacture filmstrip viewer sets. Like its largest competitor -- Sawyer View-Master, Tru-Vue's stereoscopic (3D) sets featured cartoon characters and travel scenes. When Tru-Vue sold out in 1951 to Sawyer, the asset Sawyer most coveted was Tru-Vue's exclusive contract with Disney.
* Selective components of the original advertisement appear on the magnet. The ad's coupon has been omitted, as has promotional text too small for legibility.
