Magnet pictures Elizabeth Talbot (1527-1608), also known as Bess of Hardwick. Bess was one of Mary Queen of Scots keepers and worked with her on the Oxburgh Hangings. Her 400 year old collection of tapestries and other textiles, the Harwick Hall Textiles, survives. Queens Elizabeth I and Mary I were godmothers to two of Bess's children. In her four marriages Bess's fortunes grew, making her the wealthiest women in England behind the queen. Today's Queen of England, Elizabeth II, is a descendent of Bess.
