This fridge magnet pictures a 1947 advertisement for Sunbeam Coffeemaster percolators, emphasizing the ease of automatic shut off. The Coffeemaster also boasted a 50% time reduction and unbreakable chromed metal carafes.
Sunbeam has been in the home appliance business since the early 1900s, including mixers (1930), waffle irons, toasters, irons and percolators. The company was founded by John Stewart and Thomas Clark of Chicago in 1897 to produce horse and sheep trimming machinery. It's first home appliance was the Princess Iron. An employee won $1,000 in a naming contest for coming up with the Sunbeam name.
Sunbeam is today owned by Jarden Consumer Solutions who owns other familiar brands including Aviator/Bicycle playing cards, Ball canning jars, Tigex infant supplies, First Alert alarm systems, Yankee Candle and many others. They no longer make coffee percolators but do make water heaters for tea, hot chocolate, soup, etc.
