This trio of refrigerator magnets picture three popular Abingdon Pottery cookie jars: Humpty Dumpty, Locomotive and Halloween Witch.
Abingdon was founded in 1908 to make bathroom fixtures and was quite successful at it until the Depression set in. With the market for bath furnishings at a trickle, Abingdon took stock of its assets and went to work making pottery. It is estimated that from 1934 to 1950, the company turned out over six million lamps, planters, vases, cookie jars, etc. At the end of WWII, as home construction skyrocketed, the company went back to making bath furnishings.
Abingdon's most prolific cookie jar years were 1942-1950.
A refrigerator magnet can't supply the same enjoyment as a cookie jar, but maybe this will tide you over til you add the real thing to your collection.
