Set of 2 refrigerator magnets picture vintage illustrations of Santa Claus wearing a long tan robe, delivering toys. The illustrations are from the period before red became the color for Santa's suit in America. The standard maker for that color change was newspaper cartoonist Thomas Nast (1840-1902) who depicted a red suited Santa on the covers of Harpers Weekly. (Nash is also credited with making an elephant the mascot-like symbol for the Republican party.) It is interesting that in these illustrations Santa arrives by door, not down a chimney, and the children are awake rather than dreaming of sugar plums.
